Letchworth Village
A former state developmental center with a public park and historic ruins.
About Letchworth Village
A historic site in Thiells -- a 2,000-acre former state developmental center opened in 1911 as a utopian "village" experiment. The institution closed in 1996; much of the property is now public parkland with paved walking paths and ballfields, with abandoned buildings (no entry) visible from the trails. A Rockland landmark with a complicated history, now featured on the Rockland Heritage Trail.
